Friends, lovers, and enemies who have decided to keep me so close they’re paying to be here, hello! It’s good to be back.
Thank you for all your well-wishes, comments, and concern. I’m feeling more like myself every day. The trick, I’ve learned, is to stop shaming myself for not being immediately healed and back to normal. Crazy how powerful it is to be nice to yourself! Whoda thunk?
Zooming out, I know it’s been an incredibly difficult week. My heart goes out to all those who are suffering. I hope you are taking care of yourselves as best you can.
Here are some things that have been taking care of me:
iPhone Black-and-White Mode
Do you sometimes think:
I hate my phone. I want to throw it into a ravine and then drive a Monster Truck down into that ravine to run it over — is monster truck a proper noun? It doesn’t matter, you know what I mean. I want my phone to die, but not like battery-wise. Like, permanently.
If so, you are not alone! I have literally thrown my phone across the room in disgust. The chokehold it had (that’s right, I’m using past tense #growth) on me was ridiculous. Luckily, it only took one teeny little brain injury for me to make some meaningful change with that stupid rectangle.
You don’t even have to conk your head in an extreme sport accident to do this. All you have to do to give yourself the ick and stop crawling back to your toxic relationship with your phone is turn it on black-and-white mode. Just try it for a week. When you try to go back to color you will be like, HUH?! I was staring for 6 hours a day at THAT?! The colors look crazy garish after you’re rid of them for a while.
Adam set up my phone so I can hit the lock button three times and turn the colors back on whenever I want. This was particularly useful when I desperately wanted to see Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield’s matching pink suits. You really can have it all!
