#99: Ode to Seasonal Allergies

POEM

I’d say the dogwood woofs

but my nostrils do the barking

I blow and wiggle and poof

yet my snot keeps on larking

a drip here, a sneeze there

dribbly mucus everywhere

the spring wind blows sweet scents

how I love the season’s new growth

a brotherhood of boogers begin their descent

spring’s springing proof right out my nose

🌸🌸🌸

It’s simply divine how my eyes get so itchy

I rub and I water to no soothing end

yes I realize my tone’s a bit bitchy

but a foggy film has developed over my contact lens

I can’t see nor smell spring’s sweet blooms

if I sneeze one more time it will be my doom

no, really, I love it this time of year

everything’s pretty and petaled and new

unrelated, but I’ve just found a pimple in my ear

I’m so grateful to spend this spring with all of—ACHOO!
