Sweet reader,
Writing has been weird lately. I’m working on staying grounded and present — disciplined in work and joyful in life. Despite the grounding practices, I’ve still got my head up in the clouds. Last night in particular.
Here’s a poem I wrote for the Supermoon.
Shall we go up to the roof? tilt our faces to the night, feel the soft rolls of flesh as skull meets spine Shall we not greet the moon? full and reflecting, perfect wafer-like disk the day's light resurrecting Shall we howl just once? a soft whoop or a woof, or completely unleash woman as wolf Shall we dance a bit now? up here in the chill, watching heavens on Earth our bodies a spell
Some fun stuff!
The incredible Pres Maxson wrote a play in one act called Tavern on the Water, and I was lucky enough to read for the original cast! He’s releasing the audio of our reading in installments on his Substack like a radio play. While I won’t vouch for my own vocal chops, I will say my costar Ryan Felton’s character work is inspired. And Pres’s writing is hilarious!
If you don’t want to listen to my voice playing three different characters for 45 minutes, you can also snag a printed version of the script to read. It does not disappoint!
Thanks as always for reading. <3
ily bye,
Ariana
Beauuuuutiful poem. Makes me miss the full moon already!
