Dearest Reader,
Please forgive my recent absence. I had a little blip the kids are calling a “menty b.” But no need for alarm. I journaled (almost) every day! I got support from friends and family! I actually meditated! My therapist says I’ve “turned a corner” and am experiencing something gorgeous and hilarious called “growth!” I’m feeling like myself again. It’s good to be back.
A version of this post was originally sent out to paid subs last month, but now it’s time to tell the world (all 591 of you).
I have some big news to *officially* share. Some of you may have heard rumblings. Others are scratching their beautiful noggins thinking whatever could it be?
Drumroll, please…………!
We’re moving! To New York City! In the New Year! 2025!
Ariana’s National Tour of Her Twenties continues! For those of you following along at home, we started in Atlanta. Made our way back home to Indianapolis. Honorable mention to Boston (really Cambridge) where Adam lived for two years and I frequently visited. Then we skipped on over to DC (one of my favorite cities in the world — I really miss it). And we’ve been in sunny LA for the last two years.
Adam has always had Big City, East Coast Dreams, and we’d like to fulfill those before all our city-dwelling friends get boring and go have kids in the suburbs. Kidding! But also that’s actually why. It’s a really fun town to be a young person, and we’re excited to spend some twenty-something years complaining about the subway and eating hotdogs on the sidewalk.
The good news is I can write from anywhere. This is not the end of my comedy writing dreams by any means. In fact, I think this new adventure will spark a lot of inspiration. I want to live a big, beautiful life. I think that’s the key to telling big, beautiful stories. And you know, also fulfillment and happiness and all that jazz. For me, at least.
Get ready for me to rewatch Sex and The City and insufferably compare myself to Carrie Bradshaw! Might even take up smoking! Definitely going to get a perm!
As of now, we’re thinking we’ll skedaddle out of our Santa Monica pad just before Thanksgiving, which is graciously at the very end of November this year (a gift I assume the universe arranged just for us). We’ll bop around a bit, couch-surfing and saving rent in December. Then we’ll have the most pleasant dead-of-winter move to The Big Apple in January. Current plan is to sublet for January while we apartment hunt then pounce on something with a juicy winter rent deal by February.
That means we have less than two months left living permanently in LA. (At least for now.) I’ve been emotional about it. I love the people I’ve met here, what this city represents for my career, and the leap it took to move here to pursue it. But because of all that, I know I’ll be back.
We’re going bicoastal, baby! I expect my career to really take off (like WHOOSH! ZOOOM! WEEEE!) in the very near future, like basically tomorrow. And as you may know, my ultimate dream is to write comedy television. Much of which is dreamed up in this very place. So I will absolutely be back, jet-setting across the country for meetings and gigs and hugs.
Thanks for coming along on this journey with me — sldjghspeothja — sorry that was me barfing on my keyboard after typing that tired, old (TOTALLY TRUE) cliche. I’m excited and nervous and it’s going to be great! Thanks for reading. <3
ily bye,
Ariana
